Golden Gai Book Nook Kit

WHY YOU WILL BUILD THIS

Where the Salarymen Unwind, the City Disappears

This alleyway was never planned. It accumulated.

Bar against bar, signboard over signboard, wires strung between buildings for no reason except that they had always been there. Golden Gai grew the way only real places grow: slowly, imperfectly, with no regard for design rules.

The kit holds that. Amber light on hand-placed signboards. Tangled wires overhead. Lanterns glowing in the passage below, and something in the shadows you'll only find if you look.

This is what it means to build with ANAVRIN®.

  • Display a recreation of one of Tokyo's most iconic nightlife alleys, built entirely by your own hands
  • Lose yourself in 6 to 8 hours of deeply immersive, beginner crafting
  • Layered signboards and stacked architectural detail designed to capture Golden Gai's iconic density
  • Warm amber LED lighting that replicates the glow of a real izakaya after midnight
  • Hidden salaryman silhouettes — look closely beneath the lantern light to find them
  • Tangled overhead wires, narrow staircases, and glowing signboards placed with careful intention
  • A piece of Tokyo nightlife that will stop people mid-conversation (Sequel to Kyoto Gion, Omoide Yokocho)
  • A meaningful experience, exclusively at ANAVRIN®

Why builders choose ANAVRIN®

Not all book nook kits are made equal. Here is what sets an ANAVRIN® build apart from the generic crafts you will find elsewhere.

Other Book Nook Kits

Mass-produced, generic

  • Tiny, fiddly pieces with vague instructions
  • Poorly laser-cut pieces that warp or don't fit together cleanly

  • No support once the box is opened
  • Sits on a shelf as another forgettable trinket

Crafted for builders who care

  • Pre-numbered pieces with a visual step-by-step manual
  • Precision cut MDF, ready to build
  • Warm ambient lighting that brings every scene to life
  • Original storytelling with hidden details and easter eggs
  • Free replacement parts - we've got you covered
  • A display piece that stops people mid-conversation

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before you bring Golden Gai to life.

What skill level do I need to build this?

Golden Gai is rated beginner. You do not need prior crafting experience, but this build rewards patience — particularly when layering the signboards and placing the finer architectural details. If you have built a book nook before, you will feel comfortable here. If this is your first, take it slowly and enjoy every step.

How long does the build take?

Give yourself 6 to 8 hours total. Most builders spread this across two sessions. There is no rush point in this build, and the slower you go, the better it looks.

Is this suitable as a gift?

It ships in packaging that reflects the quality inside. Golden Gai is a considered gift for anyone who loves Japan, atmospheric décor, or the kind of craft that lingers with you. If gifting to a first-time builder, we recommend pairing it with a note about the story — half the experience is knowing what you are building.

What is included in the kit?

Everything you need to complete the build: 265 pre-cut wooden pieces, 13 LED light components, miniature izakaya figurines and salaryman silhouettes, layered signboard components, overhead wire detailing, a USB power cable, an acrylic dust cover, and a fully illustrated English instruction manual.

(Glue and batteries are not included due to shipping restrictions.)

What tools will I need?

A small pair of tweezers (Included) and a toothpick for placing small details. White/silicon-based craft glue works best for assembly.

What are the finished dimensions?

The completed Cats Crossing Book Nook measures approximately 18 cm wide by 22 cm tall by 14 cm deep. It fits between standard bookshelf volumes and is designed to sit flush against your books.

Does it need batteries or a power outlet?

The LED lighting runs via USB. A USB-A cable is included. You can power it from any standard USB adapter, laptop port, or USB hub. No batteries required.

What if a piece is missing or damaged?

Reach out to us directly at info@byanavrin.com. We keep replacement parts on hand and will get the right piece to you as quickly as possible for free. A missing piece is not the end of your build.

Are these suitable for children?

We recommend the kit for ages 10 and above. Many parents have shared that their 6 to 8-year-olds enjoy building together with some guidance. It’s a lovely family activity that encourages creativity, patience, and quality time together.

Every Anavrin kit is designed in house, shipped worldwide, and backed by our replacement parts promise.
