It was challenging. This one took a lot more glue than others. Thank goodness for the spare parts. The switch is working well, but needs to be tightened once in a while.

I really like the design of this purchase! I’d even be willing to pay a higher price if you developed "more realistic settings"—I’d love to see more lifelike scenes!
Tangling Y.Verified Builder
This is by far the best book nook I’ve ever owned.

I very much enjoyed putting this one together, as I do all of them! This is my 12th Anavrin nook.

Total build time
6 to 8 hours

Walls, floor and the frame that keeps the whole scene square.

Shopfronts, rooftops and the small details you will keep finding for weeks.

The last half hour is the one people build it for.

WHY YOU WILL BUILD THIS
This alleyway was never planned. It accumulated.
Bar against bar, signboard over signboard, wires strung between buildings for no reason except that they had always been there. Golden Gai grew the way only real places grow: slowly, imperfectly, with no regard for design rules.
The kit holds that. Amber light on hand-placed signboards. Tangled wires overhead. Lanterns glowing in the passage below, and something in the shadows you'll only find if you look.
This is what it means to build with ANAVRIN®.

Precision-cut pieces
Laser cut wood, already colored. No paint, no saw.
Pre-wired LED set
Warm light that is wired and ready to switch on.
Visual step guide
Clear pictures for every step, no reading required.
Spare fragile pieces
Extra parts for the most delicate details.
Acrylic dust cover
Keeps your finished kit clean on the shelf.
You only need craft glue, a pair of scissors and batteries. The FAQ below explains how the lights are powered.
A heartfelt gift they’ll remember, and build with joy.
Designed by artists, brought to life by you.
Not all book nook kits are made equal. Here is what sets an ANAVRIN® build apart from the generic crafts you will find elsewhere.
Mass-produced, generic
Crafted for builders who care
Everything you need to know before you bring Golden Gai to life.
Golden Gai is rated beginner. You do not need prior crafting experience, but this build rewards patience — particularly when layering the signboards and placing the finer architectural details. If you have built a book nook before, you will feel comfortable here. If this is your first, take it slowly and enjoy every step.
Give yourself 6 to 8 hours total. Most builders spread this across two sessions. There is no rush point in this build, and the slower you go, the better it looks.
It ships in packaging that reflects the quality inside. Golden Gai is a considered gift for anyone who loves Japan, atmospheric décor, or the kind of craft that lingers with you. If gifting to a first-time builder, we recommend pairing it with a note about the story — half the experience is knowing what you are building.
Everything you need to complete the build: 265 pre-cut wooden pieces, 13 LED light components, miniature izakaya figurines and salaryman silhouettes, layered signboard components, overhead wire detailing, a USB power cable, an acrylic dust cover, and a fully illustrated English instruction manual.
(Glue and batteries are not included due to shipping restrictions.)
A small pair of tweezers (Included) and a toothpick for placing small details. White/silicon-based craft glue works best for assembly.
The completed Golden Gai Book Nook measures approximately 9.1 inches high, 4.9 inches wide and 7.7 inches long (23 x 12.5 x 19.5 cm). It fits between standard bookshelf volumes and is designed to sit flush against your books.
The LED lighting runs via USB. A USB-C cable is included. You can power it from any standard USB adapter, laptop port, or USB hub. No batteries required.
Reach out to us directly at info@byanavrin.com. We keep replacement parts on hand and will get the right piece to you as quickly as possible for free. A missing piece is not the end of your build.
We recommend the kit for ages 10 and above. Many parents have shared that their 6 to 8-year-olds enjoy building together with some guidance. It’s a lovely family activity that encourages creativity, patience, and quality time together.
