When our team first wandered through Seoul’s enchanting Ikseon-dong neighborhood, we were struck by how effortlessly it blends rich Korean tradition with modern charm. Among these treasures, we discovered a small bakery nestled in a traditional hanok. From the very start, we knew that the roof had to be perfect. In traditional Korean architecture, the gracefully curved giwa (ceramic roof tiles) aren’t just functional - they embody centuries of artistry, balance, and symbolism. Achieving that distinctive arc in miniature form became our passion project. We spent months studying historical references, sketching by hand, and even experimenting with different clay molds to capture the exact curvature we’d seen in Ikseon-dong’s hanok roofs. Each tiny tile in the kit is individually designed to nestle into place just like the originals, honoring the patience and precision of the craftsmen who shaped them for generations.

The hanok, a style of traditional Korean house dating back to the Joseon Dynasty (1392–1910), is more than just a building - it is a cultural symbol of harmony, balance, and craftsmanship. The most recognizable feature of a hanok is its gracefully curved roof, carefully made from ceramic tiles called giwa.

Each giwa tile in history was shaped by hand, laid with precision, and positioned to create the roof’s signature arc. This was not only functional but a way for artisans to show patience, dedication, and respect for nature.
